Hackers Have Stolen Identities of Travelers

Stolen Identities
Careless Behavior

Yesterday a group of hackers stole several identities of unnamed traveler's by way of the US Customs and Border Protection agency. This is getting old guys and gals. The article I read stated that they use a sub-contractor to monitor this information and guess what? They violated the policy that was set by the CBP and transferred the data to their own servers and set up a back door for which the hackers abused and seemingly quite easily stole the information.

The unnamed sub-contractor shouldn't even be in business if that's the stunts they pull all day. Their client gives them rules to follow and they break it. The rules were there for a reason, because someone knew that if such things were to happen then this would happen and it did. Basic security rules and they ignored them. The information they specifically stole was photos, license plates, and names. That's all you need to steal an identity. From there you can get addresses and then it spirals down, fast.

The CBP was nice enough to their sub-contractor to not name them but I think I would have because they broke basic computer security rules so that other organizations didn't fall into the same trap. They're either ignorant of best practices or they maliciously did so and knew what they were doing. I'd hope the earlier because a company doing that on purpose is, to say the least, terrifying.

My little piece for everyone to take away is, please do not make things more complicated than they need to be, especially when it comes to tech. The more trail you leave the easier it is for someone to pick up on it and take it away. Until later guys and gals.
